DISCLAIMER: I did not create the original sculpture!
I was tasked with 3D scanning this sculpture for reproduction in bronze. Due to the complexity of the original piece I decided to go with the photogrammetry approach. This would allow me to easily capture all angles of this piece, including underneath the shoulder blades and inside the eyes. Scanning it with my laser scanner would have yielded very crisp results as well but would have taken significantly more time to complete.
I GOM Inspect and Zbrush to make sure there were no holes left, thus creating a watertight model for 3D printing. The initial model was in the many millions of polygons which I reduced down to approximately 3 million which captured all the necessary details that the printing process would be able to replicate.
