I did a number of WW2 weapon scans for Days of War, an independent war game created by Driven Arts. A weapons specialist came into my studio with his antiques and I did laser scans of all of them. Since these were all original and functional pieces I wasn't allowed to treat the surfaces with anything such as powder, so the scan itself is rather rough as you can see in the image. However, using the additional reference photography I was able to model a fairly precise rendition of the pistol. Secondly I created a low res and game ready asset around this high poly mesh and used it to bake normal maps. All PBB texture maps were created in Substance Painter though I was fairly new at it at the time.
