For a brief period I was fascinated with old "Wild West" weaponry and their craftsmanship. This one was by far my favorite: the Colt 1851 Navy. My inspiration for this particular one was the revolver I had seen in a museum here in SoCal which belonged to Wild Bill Hickok. it had really nice and intricate designs and ivory grips.
I modeled the piece from reference photography and had an artist draw all the graphics for it. There are ornate decorations on the sides of the piece, galloping horses on the cylinder and various decals engraved in the metal components.
The color, spec and normal maps are created in Photoshop (I didn't use Substance Painter yet at that time). The images are rendered in Blender using Cycles.
